UPDATE 2024/03/13, 9:30pm – TROTAMAR III – SUPPORT FROM SOS Méditerranée
In the evening, the crew of the TROTAMAR III was able to stabilize around 100 people on a boat in distress by handing out life jackets. After a few hours, the civilian rescue ship OCEAN VIKING from the NGO SOS Méditerranée reached the scene and provided assistance. The refugees were all transferred to the VIKING and are now safe onboard.

The crew of the TROTAMAR III spotted a boat in distress this afternoon at around 4.00 pm. The overcrowded boat continued for some time under its own engine power, while the TROTAMAR III accompanied the approx. 100 people on board. Then the engine fails. With the help of the TROTAMAR III’s dinghy, life jackets were distributed to the people and the situation was stabilized. We repeatedly called on the rescue coordination centers to come to the aid of the people.

The crew of the TROTAMAR III spotted a boat in distress this afternoon at around 4 p.m. There are probably more than 40 people on board. The unseaworthy boat is therefore overcrowded and the safety of the people is not guaranteed. The TROTAMAR III sent out a MAYDAY RELAY and informed the rescue coordination centers about the situation and requested the immediate rescue of the people.
