Yesterday at around 3 pm, the crew of the Trotamar III came across a boat in distress: About 60 people in a fiberglass boat with poor stability. The boat’s outboard engines are still running, but water is entering the boat and the people had no life-saving equipment on board.
As quickly as possible, our dinghy crew distributed life jackets to all the people on board. We are now accompanying the boat towards Lampedusa.
The crew has already made several distress calls for the people. We are calling on the relevant authorities to send a larger, suitable rescue ship immediately!
