🪞 The sea around us is as flat as a mirror. The sun is shining. Actually the best conditions for people to make their way to Europe. But there are hardly any boats on the way. We keep an eye out and are in contact with other NGOs on the water, on land and in the air. If there is a spotting of a boat, it is so far away from us that we cannot take the case. So we continue to wait and ask ourselves: why are there no boats around?
⛓️💥 We can’t say for sure, but our assumption gives us a headache. The fact that so few boats have been spotted can only mean that people are stopped at the North African border before they start their journey across the sea. We wonder whether repression against refugees has increased massively in recent days and is hindering people from exercising their right to freedom of movement.
🔭 We continue to wait and stand ready. If a boat does come, we want to be ready for action within minutes. We keep watch, check our equipment and go over everything again. We are not only sailing against Fortress Europe, but also against unjust regimes such as Libya and Tunisia, which do not allow people to flee.
