70 people rescued
Yesterday, our crew encountered a distress case: around 70 people on a small, overcrowded fibreglass boat. With the dinghy, the crew immediately distributed life vests to everyone.
Over the next few hours, we accompanied the boat in distress and provided the people with water, food, and emergency blankets. After a few hours, the fuel ran out, leaving the small boat adrift in the waves.
We repeatedly sent out distress calls for the escape boat. In the late afternoon, a speedboat from the Italian Coast Guard finally reached us, took everyone on board, and brought them to Lampedusa.
