Why are we refusing to coordinate with Tunisia in maritime emergencies? Tunisia is not a place of safety for refugees!

Since 2023, Tunisia’s president has been fueling hatred and incitement against migrants. The arbitrary and unlawful detention of refugees and migrants is widespread in Tunisia and disproportionately affects Black people. Furthermore, this detention takes place under degrading and cruel conditions.

Amnesty International has found that since June 2023, collective expulsions of refugees and migrants—which are prohibited under international law—have become routine. Among other things, people are being abandoned defenseless in the desert.

The Tunisian Coast Guard repeatedly resorts to unlawful and violent tactics that endanger human lives.

We demand: No communication with Tunisian authorities regarding maritime emergencies!
