Updates from the shipyard
We are in dry dock! (Update | January 27)
The Trotamar III was taken out of the water and is now in the shipyard in Licata. There, the biggest construction work of our shipyard period have begun.
The shipyard crew is currently busy with fiberglass work: Guard rail supports are being laminated, holes are being sealed, the fixed points for the on-board ladder are being reinforced and a few scratches are being patched up.
In addition, 11 sea valves will be replaced over the next two weeks and the respective sealable hull openings will be rebuilt.
We are also in the process of installing an acoustic signaling system. We need this for our new ship safety certificate. The system will also be useful for communicating with people in distress at sea.
Back in the water! (Update | February 2)
We have transferred the Trotamar III from the dry dock back to the marina in Licata – of course not without first checking that all the sea valves are really tight!
In the marina, work is now continuing on the coaming, which surrounds the deck and limits water ingress. The coaming has been sealed and is now being sanded and painted.
The shipyard crew has also started work below deck, for example on the foot pumps of the sink in the galley. In addition, a bathroom door is being fitted with new hinges.
Our shipyard time is coming to an end. (Update | February 10)
Today we proudly present the freshly painted hull of the Trotamar III! With a lot of effort and love, our shipyard crew has painted the lettering and the CompassCollective logo on the hull. In addition to our Wendland flag, the painting ensures that we will be even easier to recognize on the water in the future.
The technical work on board has also progressed: We have finished the fiberglass work, pulled new cables into the mast, connected lamps and installed a new compass. New curtains for the cabins have also been sewn. After four weeks in the shipyard, we are slowly completing all the construction projects and getting the boat ready for the first deployment in 2025. We want to be back on the water by the end of February in order to support People on the Move.
Would you like to support us with a donation? We are happy to receive any donation that helps us to continue our work in the Mediterranean Sea. In particular, we are looking for sponsoring members who can guarantee us long-term planning security for the operation of our sailboat.
