Everything happened very quickly: Late yesterday afternoon, the Trotamar III left Lampedusa and set course for the SAR zones in the central Mediterranean Sea.
At around 3 am this morning, our crew came across a rubber boat in distress – completely overcrowded with 37 people on board. The small boat’s engine had failed and it was drifting in the waves, unable to maneuver.
For hours, our crew alerted the authorities about the distress case, but no rescue boat was sent. That’s why our skipper Johannes decided at around 7:30 this morning to take everyone on board the Trotamar III to rescue them from their dangerous situation.
Now the Trotamar III is on her way to Lampedusa with all 37 rescued people.
