Leaving Licata
After almost a week of intensive training and preparations, our crew left the port of Licata this morning. The Trotamar III is now heading for Lampedusa – the last spot of Europe on the map before the Tunisian and Libyan coasts.
In recent days, we have received a lot of disastrous news from the central Mediterranean Sea: people who have drowned because their boats capsized – even though the authorities knew about the distress situation beforehand. People who have been shot at by the so-called Libyan coast guard.
We are saddened and angered by these new escalations in Europe’s isolationist policy. The Trotamar III is now heading out on the central Mediterranean Sea to sail against Fortress Europe. We need safe escape routes and freedom of movement for all!
