For the first time, we’re not heading out aboard our TROTAMAR III, but with the THETIS II. For the Thetis II, this will be her very first rescue rotation.

Since the end of July, the Thetis has been fully equipped and ready to sail from her new home port in Licata, Sicily. However, the SARAH team currently does not have the capacity to operate the vessel themselves. At the same time, we want the Thetis II to be deployed as quickly as possible where she is needed most — on the migration routes in the Central Mediterranean.

We are bringing together our expertise and resources and borrowing the Thetis II for two rotations. Due to increasing criminalization, we are currently dependent on using another vessel. In September and October, the ship will set sail with our six-person crew of activists to support people on the move. Next year, the Thetis II will return to the SARAH team.
