Gegen 14.00 Uhr hatte die Crew des zivilen Rettungsschiffes TROTAMAR III heute Kontakt zu einem Boot in Seenot, südwestlich von Lampedusa. In Zusammenarbeit mit Alarmphone und Seawatch wurden wir auf die Menschen aufmerksam. Es handelte sich um mehr als 40 Personen an Bord eines überfüllten und nicht seetauglichen Metallbootes, mit defektem Motor. Wasser trat in das Boot ein. Die Menschen befanden sich in Lebensgefahr, denn diese Boote sinken bei größerem Wassereinbruch sofort. Das Wetter war schlecht, die Wellen zwei Meter hoch.
Die Crew der TROTAMAR III verteilte Schwimmwesten an die Menschen, um die Situation zu stabilisieren.
Mit einem „MAYDAY RELAY“ wurden die zuständigen staatlichen Stellen von uns über die Situation informiert und um dringende Hilfe gebeten. Gegen 17.00 Uhr erschien ein Boot der lampedusischen Küstenwache und nahm die Menschen an Bord.
Die Crew der TROTAMAR III nahm daraufhin auch Kurs auf Lampedusa.
At around 2 p.m. today, the crew of the civilian rescue ship TROTAMAR III made contact with a boat in distress southwest of Lampedusa. In cooperation with Alarmphone and Seawatch, we became aware of the people. There were more than 40 people on board an overcrowded and unseaworthy metal boat with a faulty engine. Water was entering the boat. The people’s lives were in danger, as these boats sink immediately if they take on too much water. The weather was bad and the waves were two meters high.
The crew of the TROTAMAR III distributed life jackets to the people in order to stabilize the situation.
With a „MAYDAY RELAY“ we informed the responsible government authorities about the situation and asked for urgent help. At around 5 p.m., a boat from the Lampedusa Coast Guard arrived and took the people on board.
The crew of the TROTAMAR III then also set course for Lampedusa.
