Late yesterday evening, the Trotamar III left Lampedusa and sailed out towards the Search and Rescue zones in the central Mediterranean Sea. During the night, the crew received the first distress call via @alarmphone and set course for the last known position of the migrant vessel.
This morning, the Trotamar III reached the boat with 35 people on board, including a baby and a pregnant woman. The crew distributed life jackets to the people. The boat’s outboard engine is no longer working, the people are drifting in increasingly strong winds and waves. The crew has already made repeated distress calls for the unseaworthy boat and will continue to accompany and support the people until the responsible authorities respond.
